Colin Jones Artist – Portfolio Website
Creating an Online Gallery for an Artist
An artist’s website should allow the work to speak for itself.
Juice Factory designed a new website for artist Colin Jones, creating an online portfolio that provides visitors with an engaging way to explore his artwork.
The Challenge
For an artist, the quality of the website needs to reflect the quality of the work it presents. The design therefore needed to be visually engaging without competing with the artwork itself.
Portfolio Website Design
The website was structured around the artwork, making it easy for visitors to explore the different pieces and collections.
Large, high-quality imagery gives the work prominence while simple navigation allows visitors to move naturally through the portfolio.
COLIN JONES
Artist (1928 – 1967)
Colin Jones Artist was described as one of the most promising Welsh artists of his generation. His untimely death in 1967, was considered a great loss to Welsh art. If he had he not died in his thirties, he would have gone on to make a significant contribution to the visual arts in Wales. Many of the major Welsh and London galleries exhibited Colin Jones’ work during his lifetime.
Letting the Artwork Lead
When designing a website for a creative professional, restraint can be just as important as creativity.
The visual design was deliberately developed to provide a clean framework around the artwork, allowing colour, texture, composition and detail to remain the focus.
A Digital Portfolio
The finished website provides Colin with an online gallery that can be shared with potential clients, collectors and anyone interested in his work.
